Tudor Leather Strap: Fit and Style Guide
A Tudor leather strap turns a steel dive watch into something more relaxed for everyday wear. Warm, textured leather suits the vintage-inspired dials and aged markers that many Tudor watches are known for, and on a tool watch it reads casual rather than formal. Before choosing a colour, measure your watch and check how the strap attaches, because lug widths and case shapes vary across the range.
Below are the straps we have photographed on Tudor watches, what each one does, a non-leather option for sportier wear, and how to get the size right. Cernir is an independent strap maker and is not affiliated with Tudor.
Before you order: attachment and fit
Our straps fit watches that hold the strap with a spring bar between two lugs. When you move a bracelet-equipped watch to a strap, removing the bracelet's end links can leave a visible gap between the strap and the case; whether you mind it is a matter of taste. The lug width, the spring-bar diameter and the clearance between the spring bar and the case all need to suit the strap, so confirm the measurements for your exact watch before ordering.
Every Cernir strap comes with two quick-release spring bars fitted. Check that they seat securely in your watch, and if either end does not engage fully, do not wear it. Our guide on how to change a watch strap walks through the steps.
Vintage Tudor Submariner: brown Pueblo leather

On a vintage Submariner with a blue dial and blue bezel, our Dark Brown Pueblo Leather Slim Watch Strap keeps the look calm and slightly smart. Pueblo is a vegetable-tanned leather from Conceria Badalassi Carlo in Tuscany, with a matte, slightly rough, two-tone surface. In our straps it smooths and darkens with wear, which suits a watch that already shows its age.

A redder shade such as our Rust Brown Pueblo strap pushes the contrast with the blue further and gives the watch a warmer, more casual look. We also make Pueblo in cognac, navy, olive green and turquoise; our guide to strap colours for a blue dial compares several of them on this same watch.
Modern Tudor dive watches: leather or rubber
On a modern Tudor diver with a black dial and black bezel, we find tan or brown leather works well, especially where the hands and markers have a gilt or cream tone. A smooth vegetable-tanned leather such as Buttero develops a sheen with wear, while pebbled Togo calfskin feels soft from the first day. Browse our Pueblo and Buttero collections for the shades we make.

If you want something sportier than leather, our brown sailcloth Padded strap, shown above on a Tudor dive watch, is rubber with a sailcloth-pattern surface. It is lined with Zermatt calfskin as standard, or rubber, and it is not made for swimming with either lining. Our sailcloth watch strap guide explains the material.
Getting the size right
Lug widths differ between Tudor models and eras, so measure the gap between your watch's lugs with a ruler or callipers; our lug width guide shows how. Each strap is made to order in any lug width from 10mm to 30mm and buckle width from 10mm to 24mm, and is ready to ship within 3 to 7 business days.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put a leather strap on my Tudor?
If your watch holds its strap or bracelet with spring bars between the lugs, usually yes, provided the lug width, spring-bar diameter and clearance suit the strap. Confirm the measurements for your exact watch before ordering.
Which leather colour suits a Tudor with a blue dial?
Brown is the easiest choice: dark brown looks calm, while rust brown or cognac gives a warmer contrast. Navy gives a tonal look.
Will a leather strap age on a dive watch?
Yes. Vegetable-tanned leathers such as Pueblo and Buttero darken and change with wear, which many owners enjoy on a vintage-style watch. A calfskin with a finished surface usually changes less.
Can I swim with a leather strap on my Tudor?
No. Keep the leather strap for dry days, as water can mark the upper and harm the lining. For swimming, use a strap made for water, and only if your watch's water resistance has been confirmed.
